Maybe it’s the shower you’re not a big fan of and would like to change? While that’s often a bit more costly and less of a DIY job, you can find plenty of remodel inspiration on Pinterest while also considering budget and how to make the rest of the bathroom match the new style of shower you want!

Try thinking outside the box! Isn’t this a cool outdoor shower concept!? If you’re looking to do something different that will wow your friends and family, consider doing something unique like this outdoor shower!

Want to try something cool!?

Just open up the Pinterest app on your phone and hit the camera button next to the search bar. It will open up a round camera screen that you can aim at any image like the one you see above surrounded by colored dots. BayMaxx’s Summer Safety Tips!

Hello Again Friends!

It’s summer time! Florida has great weather all year long, but I especially love to play in the sun and rest in shade during the summer! What dog doesn’t!? If we haven’t met yet let me introduce myself!

My name’s BayMaxx!

I’m a four year old American Staffy who’s main job is to guard Next Level Plumbing’s office and manager, be the business mascot, and remind my humans how much I love them! I like to play with my neighbor pup and her little humans and LOVE to eat ice cubes (especially in summer!) I know a lot of tricks but am not very good at playing fetch, I love to sunbathe, and always want to join in when I see my human dancing around the house- who wouldn’t want to join in such a fun activity!?

Summer in Florida means lots of outdoor activities and extra appreciation for AC, popsicles, good summer treats, and a long drink of cold water! But there are some things to consider when bringing your pet out in this summer heat! Please keep reading toes what I mean!

Before I start, don’t forget to travel prepared for any adventure when you’re bringing your pup along!

I’m not fancy and don’t need too much to be happy, but I really appreciate having a water bowl to take a drink when I need it, a towel for when I inevitably get wet or dirty, a toy to chew on when I’m taking a break from playing, and some treats to remind me of when I’m being extra good!

Of course, having a back up collar, leash, and doggy bags is always a must too!

Now let’s talk about 3 important things to consider for your pets summer safety!

1. Pavement & Paws:

This is so rarely thought of but so Very important! If the pavement is too hot for you to walk barefoot on, or for you to leave your hand on for more than a few seconds, it’s too hot for us pups too! Consider walking us in the grass, getting dog shoes for us (they totally exist!) or walking us earlier in the morning or later in the evening so we don’t burn our paws while out on our midday stroll with you!

2. Safety First:

Don’t leave us in the car unless supervised or car is running, treat us pups like we’re toddlers you’re caring for! If you think of us with that level of concern, we won’t suffer at all!

3. Up to Date & Can Prove It:

Make sure your pup is up to date with all the shots & vaccinations that they need! It’s best to look from a strangers standpoint here, if someone’s else dog got into a quarrel with yours, or nipped at your child, you would want that dog to be vaccinated and up to date on its shots right!? Always keeping a collar (with ID & a phone number to contact) on your pup is important too! This helps ensure your pet will be able to get back to you if they go missing or run away.

Hope you enjoy and make good use of these sunny summer suggestions for you and your furry friend! If you’d like to read more of my blogs then check out a few that I’ve shared below! Thanks for reading along and I’ll see you next time!

Love, BayMaxx!

Hope you enjoy!

N2K: Pulling Plumbing Permits

Next Level Need to Knows!

-Plumber’s Perspective on Pulling Permits-

Permits.

Most people don’t want to deal with them. And who can blame them?

Permits can be frustrating, time consuming, and on top of that they cost money. But we all have to get them anyway. So instead of focusing on the downside of permits, let’s look at a few good things that come out of pulling a permit for your project.

Having a permit means that you will have a third party inspector who visits the site and checks on the work.

He isn’t partial to you or the contractor, so you know you are getting a fair assessment. If he signs off, your chances of a long lasting and well built project dramatically increase.

You know that the job is official.

This one catches a lot of people by surprise. Many times when unpermitted work is done it can be caught when you sell the house. At this point penalties can be levied, inspections required, and sometimes the job has to be completely torn out and redone by licensed professionals.

This is terrible for the seller, but think about it as a buyer.

You don’t want a house that you don’t know has been properly upgraded. There is a reason some regulations are super strict, and it’s for your safety.

When your chosen professional plumbing contractor pulls a permit, it shows he has the legal paperwork to be doing business in your area.

So yes, it costs more upfront. But especially in Florida you want to make sure to get a good legal company to perform the work at your house. And if you can avoid some of the catastrophic unpermited failures I’ve come across, it will be well worth the investment.

We hope this blog by Byron, Next Level Plumbing’s owner & master plumber, has been useful to you! If you’d like to check out more blogs written by Byron, just click on the links below!

4 Activities To Do This Summer!

4 Fit, Fun, Family Friendly Activities To Do in SRQ This Summer!

There’s nothing like living in the Sunshine state and experiencing the full force of nature (in the form of squelching sun and headstrong hurricanes) but living here does have its perks!

We hope you’re surviving the Florida heat and staying out of the regular storms that come each week!

While you’re doing that, take a few minutes to read on and check out some Next Level summer fun suggestions you and the family can do together!

1. Explore a new park! Whether you’re walking, biking, hiking, or paddling- there’s definitely a lot of parks around here to visit! The following parks listed are just a few of our Next Level Favorites! They offer real Florida vibes with beaches, hidden trails, workout zones, places to put in kayaks, bird watching spots, fun boardwalks through nature, and more! Pick one and have a fantastic adventure: Myakka State Park; Bayfront Park (Marina Jacks); South Lido County Park; Urfer Family Park; and Bird Key Park.

2. Take to the waters with a kayak, canoe, or paddle board and see what kinds of wildlife you can spot! Here are some of Sarasota’s best locations for dipping your toes or paddles into the water and going for a cruise through some mangroves! Don’t forget your sunscreen and a life vest for safety! All are beautiful and full of sights to enjoy: Ted Sterling Park at South Lido Beach; Casperson Trail at Casperson Beach Park; the trail at Jim Neville Marine Preserve, or follow along the barrier island of Casey Key into Oscar Scherer State Park!

3. Want to go a different route with the fam? Get a day or weekend pass at Sun’N’Fun, or hit your favorite beach with a volleyball or football- aim to stay active in the sun rather than just sitting and soaking up rays! It’s a great, healthy alternative for family fun!

4. Want to go all out and really test your strength and endurance? Then try out TreeUmph! Give their adventure course up in the trees a go, and see how it feels to use your brain and body to get through the up high obstacles!

We hope you make use of these fun things to do around SRQ! If you’d like to read more blogs like this then check out a few that are shared below! Thanks for reading along and we’ll see you next time!

Who’s Who & What’s What!?!

Tomorrow is “Get to Know Your Customers Day!”

Observed annually on the 3rd Thursday of each quarter (January, April, July & October) this is a day meant to celebrate the small businesses and their customers, and more importantly help those small businesses  to reach out to their customers and get to know them better!

Our Goal…

In making an effort to get to know our customers, we are helping those customers build up a better understanding of, and trust in, who we are as a business. We hope to show our clients that we see them as valued people, not just jobs and dollar signs that will come and go. By getting to know our customers, we’re  also learning how to serve them better, and what changes we should make to better suit their needs as a demographic.

Some FAQ’s About NLP:

Are You Local?

Yes we are! Next Level Plumbing is a locally owned and operated business here in the Sarasota area, servicing the Sarasota and Manatee County.

How Long Have You Been In Business?

Next Level Plumbing has been in business for a little over 2 years now. Byron has been plumbing in the Sarasota area for over 15 years before deciding to start his own business!

What Type Of Plumbing Work Do You Do?

NLP does Residential plumbing work, we handle any and all plumbing needs in the residential area with just a few exceptions (for example, have a back flow problem? We only install new backflows, we can’t repair or certify them). We also require payment upon completion of the job.

How Can I Learn More About NLP?

Want to get to know us better? You can look up our google reviews, check out our website, read through our blog, follow us on Facebook, and even check out our Pinterest boards! Hopefully these various social media platforms will help you to learn more about us!

“Nat’l Simplicity Day”- A BayMaxx Blog

Today (July 12th, 2019) is

National Simplicity Day!

(National Simplicity Day link)

This day falls on the birthday of, and honors, the transcendentalist Henry David Thoreau.

“Our life is frittered away by detail… simplify, simplify.” – Henry David Thoreau

On this day we are encouraged to take a step back from our fast paced, busy lifestyles and look for ways to simplify our day to day lives.

This provides an opportunity to declutter and get rid of any extra things weighing us down.

Try taking a moment or two to step out into nature and relax, find peace of mind, and balance by tuning out the rest of the world and focusing on the little things, or on the vastness of the universe in comparison to us.

“The simplest things are often the truest.”- Richard Bach

Ways To Simplify:

  • Make a list of what’s important to you- try to include goals you’ve made, things you love, and activities you enjoy. By recognizing and acknowledging the things you value in life, you can start to simplify you’re day by choosing, and appreciating, the valued parts over the unnecessary ones.

  • Declutter! If you don’t have time to purge the whole house of clutter, then pick one section (like your bathroom makeup drawer or the junk drawer in your office) and take the time to be thorough when you clean it!

  • Put your bank account at ease by cutting off impulse buying. Unless it’s on the list for the shopping trip, don’t buy it! Make the list and trip once a week to help yourself prioritize and plan for the week ahead.

  • Look at your week/month/etc. and the activities you do throughout that time. What do you consider to be worth your time? Which activities make you happy or bring you joy? Do they improve your life? If not, why are you doing those activities? Consider the value of your time and how you can make the most (and the best) out of your life every day.

“Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were big things.”- Robert Brault

AYP: “Organize Under Your Sink!”

Ask Your Plumber: Round 2!

“Organize Under Your Sink!”

Some people are perfectionists in every area of their lives, and a lot of us aren’t. So that means there are places in our homes that we don’t want guests to see, like under the kitchen or bathroom sink, the laundry room, a closet or workout room. Places where it’s not presentable in our opinion, so we close it off promising ourselves to clean it later to avoid this happening again. At least… this is what I’ve done plenty of times.

One area that we often forget to clean until the last minute is under the kitchen or bathroom sinks. Many of us toss whatever cleaning supplies we’ve bought under there, and satisfy ourselves knowing that as long as the cabinet doors close under the sink, we don’t have to worry about anyone seeing what’s under there… until the plumber has to come fix a leak or replace something.

So for the procrastinator, the slightly messy person, or just the “I’m too busy to deal with it now” person out there. We have a few easy suggestions to fix up and organize under the sink that you might want to check out!

1. Start with a thorough cleanse!

Many times we stuff unneeded items under the sink thinking we’ll use it later or just store it there for the time being. By going through and deciding what needs to be under the sink, you’re making space and decluttering a part of your home at the same time!

2. Organize, Sort, & Setup!

Once you’ve organized and decluttered everything under your sink, take a moment to sort it all out, use some cheap containers from the store to put items in groups and make sure it all fits comfortably in the space available under your sink. Having everything sorted in a way that you can easily take out and use is the best! Those containers also will serve another purpose- they can catch any leaks that might happen under your sink if placed in the right spots!

3. Go the Extra Mile!

If you don’t feel happy enough with having sorted everything under your sink, you can check out amazon or Pinterest for more options on how to convert the space under your sink into a useful, well organized spot. Add some labels to the containers, or put a little light in the back of the space so when you go searching for something you are blindly rummaging! A little light that you can tap on and off that can attach to the side of the cabinet is perfect! Check out this link for more ideas! (Amazon Organizer Ideas)

These are just 3 easy simple suggestions for you that will help you feel more organized, and will make your plumber happy when he comes to make repairs as well! It gets a bit stressful to have to pull everything out from under a sink and then work around it… just ask Byron, he has plenty of experience with that!

Fix It Felix: Hurricane Ready Home!

Fix It Felix:

Hurricane Headed Your Way? We’ll Help You Be Prepared!

(Blog Post by Your Favorite Fix It Felix- Byron Thomson!)

Read on to see what Byron, your Next Level neighborhood Fix It Felix, recommends with hurricane season right around the corner!

Freeze A Cup of Ice!

If you’re planning to evacuate, or maybe just go on a nice unplanned vacation courtesy of a hurricane you may be concerned whether your house has lost power during the time you’re away.

If that’s the case, take a moment to fill a cup of water a day or two before you leave the house and freeze it. Once it’s frozen place a coin on top of the ice filled cup and leave it in the freezer.

The idea being that if you come home to the coin still on top the house has survived the storm and the fridge didn’t completely thaw everything out. If it’s sank any amount in the cup though…. you may want to clear out your fridge and freezer of everything that was in it… juuust to be safe!

Check Your Generator!

After a generator sits for a while it can have a tendency to not start. It is always a good idea to start the generator every month or two and let it run for 15 min or so. This helps it stay ready for the emergency.

Also, if you are on a well, keep in mind that you usually can’t just connect the generator without a special connection. Ask your electrician about this before the emergency happens.

Fill Em Up!

Before a hurricane it can be a good idea to fill some sinks with water in case you lose water for a while. You can fill your sinks or tub so you have extra water to flush toilets, or wash hands, etc.

It is a good idea to test these before hand if you want to use them because sometimes they don’t hold water like they should overnight. Just remember when filling a bathtub, it is sometimes the safest place in the house. If this is your go to place, you shouldn’t fill it with water.

FYI: Most drains can hold water overnight, but sometimes due to the China mold, or slight casting errors a complete seal is unattainable. Talk to your local plumber about your drains to see how they can be fixed properly.

Check Your Trees!

It’s always a good idea to take a look around your property and check your trees before storm season hits. Think about how they could effect your roof and also your plumbing if you live on a well. If a branch lands on your well equipment it can cost thousands of dollars to repair it. Just consider that when balancing the cost of a tree trim vs leaving it alone.

4 Ways to Liberate Your Plumbing!

Happy Almost 4th of July!

Time to Celebrate!

Tomorrow is the Fourth of July which means lots of celebrating America’s independence with cookouts, beach days, weekend filled with family time and firework fun, etc.

Have you considered liberating your home’s old plumbing? It might be time for some upgrades!

Consider these 4 great ways explained by Byron, Next Level’s Master Plumber!

1. Fix Up Those Fixtures!

It’s a great time to clean up the look of your house and install new fixtures. It’s amazing what a new faucet will do for the look if the bathroom or kitchen.

I recently installed 2 new bathroom faucets for a customer and he was thrilled with the look. He told me later that he is always happy when he goes into the bathroom because it looks so much nicer with the newspaper fixtures.

2. Level Up Your Filtration System!

Clean water is one of the most important things we can have in life. It helps us stay healthier and live longer. One simple thing you can do is install a whole house water filtration and conditioning unit on your house.

These systems clean the water for the best quality water to drink, bath in, and wash hands. There a lot of options for water filtration, it is always a good idea to have your local plumber take a look at the options you are considering to make sure they are a good fit for your home.

3. Pump Improvement Please!

If you have ever stood at the faucet running hot water for several minutes waiting for hot water and thought it was a waste of water and time then you’re right.

Thankfully there is a pump that is able to recirculate your hot water so you waste less water and save more time. Best part about them is that they only take about as much power as a lightbulb and can be put on a timer to save electricity.

4. Upgrade Your Water Heater!

Water Heaters last about 10-15 years in most cases. When you replace them is a great time to talk to your plumber about the options you have for a new one.

There are tanks with longer warranties, tankless water heaters that take less space, hybrid water heaters that are way more efficient, and ones you can control with your phone. All you have to decide is the one that fits you the best.

Hope these 4 Fourth of July tips help you out when you’re getting ready to upgrade or improve your plumbing!
